The traditional analysis of accident causation reveals that 88% of accidents are caused due to unsafe acts caused by workers. This paved way to develop techniques that may be implemented to moderate human behaviour to curtail accidents due to unsafe acts. Thus, came the hierarchy of controls viz., engineering controls, admin controls and finally PPE. With this implementation over a period of time, the accident rate reduced and improved safety performance in industries. However, the prevalence of minor accidents still persisted. The behavioural scientists then came with the approach to moderate worker behaviour at work place to improve work safety. This approach was christened as Behaviour Based Safety and has taken the industry by storm today.
